Mall of Africa
The largest retail development in the world to attain EDGE Advanced certification.
Mall of Africa, developed by Attacq, achieved a global first as the largest retail development to attain EDGE Advanced certification. With a gross internal area of 484,800 m² and 130,831 m² of gross leasable area, the project demonstrates that sustainability upgrades can be embedded at mammoth scale across a fully operational retail environment.
The certification was driven by wide-reaching water efficiency upgrades throughout the mall, combined with a large-scale photovoltaic installation contributing 41.1% of the EDGE projected annual energy use. Close collaboration between the project team and Ecolution as the EDGE auditors was essential to ensure all required areas and fittings were effectively covered.
